Making a Will together with the generally associated expensive visit to the solicitors office used to be considered somewhat of a chore that was often delayed, often to the cost of that person’s family when the inevitable happened.
Often reasons were used such as the cost or time involved in organising a will although most people understandably just don’t like thinking about their own death. It is a subject though that does need considering and taking action on and the sooner, the better.
If you consider solicitors too expensive and require a cheaper option than it may be worth considering using a will making kit. Some of these come in the form of software to use with your computer but another form exists, a pre-printed kit that you can complete manually.
These are available from larger stationary stores and have pre-printed stationary containing all the tedious but necessary legal terms and formal layout together with instructions and examples to help you.
Some of these kits come with a book which can be very useful for explaining what you can do and how to do it with clear instructions and advice. The prices for these simplified DIY will writing kits vary between around £5 to £15 and contain everything you need to make a legally binding will.
The more expensive versions tend to give you a choice of several different types of will for you to choose from complete with templates or forms and step by step explanations to help you choose the one that’s best for you. Some kits come with a CD included so you can print off the completed document using your computer.
Although the books themselves are fairly long reaching in their explanations of what you can do and how to do it the templates or forms themselves are generally only basic so if you decide to write your own, more complicated will using the book it is recommended that you get it verified by a solicitor.
Some solicitors on the internet offer this service either free of charge or at a very reasonable cost. A solicitor’s services are not required to make a will legal but it is recommended, laws can change together with your personal circumstances and a legal verification is still relatively inexpensive considering the peace of mind it can bring knowing that your wishes will be carried out and your family protected.
